Just a reminder that we have auditions this week for ensemble and chair placement for next semester.
Monday: Auditions after school for Flutes, Saxophones, Trumpets, and Horns.
Tuesday: Auditions after school for Clarinets, Oboes, Bassoons, Trombones, Baritones, and Tubas
Wednesday: 1:30 PM Early Release. Fruit Delivery - Evening TBA
Thursday: 3:45-5:00 Parade practice
Friday: Get some rest :)
Saturday: 7:00AM Report time to SPHS for the CHOA Parade
As soon as I know a more definite delivery time for the fruit I will post a time. Until then I am anticipating roughly 5:00PM. The fruit company does not provide people to unload the fruit. Although we do not have an extremely large order I could really use your help in unloading the fruit. If you are available can you please help me on Wednesday evening to unload and organize the fruit?
Please remember to purchase your traditional red and white santa hat this week for Saturday's parade. Colorguard is wearing a Faded Glory White Knit Cap. Both can be found for as little as $1.00.

Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for all that you have done, continue to do, and will do. The Chili Cook-Off was a great success! The students sounded fantastic and we were able to raise a good bit of money. I left the exact figure at work, it will be reported at the next booster meeting - but if I remember correctly it was just shy of $2000.00! That is tremendous! GREAT JOB!
I hope that everyone is having the best Thanskgiving Break ever. Please remind your son(s)/daughter(S) that we have auditions on Monday and Tuesday when we get back. There is an early release day on Wednesday, and then we have parade practice on Thursday from 3:45-5:00. Saturday's report time is 7:00AM. I am looking forward to this experience with the students. The Children's Christmas Parade begins at Peachtree Street near Baker Street in downtown Atlanta. The route follows Peachtree Street and turns right onto Marietta Street. It will then turn left and end on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. More information can be found on the CHOA.org website. What an honor it is to be a part of the 30th Annual Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Parade. Seats are still available for $12.00 each through their website if you do not want to fight for a spot on the street.
This is the official press release from their website:
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's 30th Annual Christmas Parade Returns Dec. 4 to Downtown Atlanta
Limited Bleacher Seats Available for $12, Parade Proceeds Benefit Children's
ATLANTA (Holiday 2010)—Join Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Santa Claus and more than 300,000 spectators along the streets of downtown Atlanta for the largest Christmas parade in the Southeast. Now in its 30th year, the Children’s Christmas Parade will kick off the holiday season Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from the parade will help fund programs and equipment to serve the patients and families at Children’s.
“I, along with so many Atlanta residents and organizations, am proud to be a part of a tradition that families look forward to throughout the year,” said Lisa Martinez, chairman of this year’s parade. “While providing Atlanta with a memorable holiday experience, the parade also plays a vital role by raising funds to support the health care needs of Georgia’s children.”
Madison Queen, a patient of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s from McDonough, Ga., will lead Santa and Mrs. Claus, Miss Georgia, award-winning marching bands, floats, dance groups and giant helium balloons along the parade route. Prominently seated in a horse-drawn carriage, Madison will be accompanied by her parents Billy and Tina Queen.
The Children's Christmas Parade begins at Peachtree Street near Baker Street in downtown Atlanta. The route follows Peachtree Street, turns right onto Marietta Street and finishes along Centennial Olympic Park Drive.
The event is free and open to the public. For those seeking front-row access, reserved bleacher seats will go on sale Sept. 15, for $12. The Children’s Christmas Parade will also air live on WSB-TV Channel 2 (ABC), beginning at 10:30 a.m. WSB-TV's Jovita Moore and Justin Farmer will provide viewers with live updates along the parade route.
The Children’s Christmas Parade is made possible by generous supporters, including Aaron's, Arrow Exterminators, Crawford and Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Fidelity, SunTrust and Wells Fargo. Promotional support is also provided by Star94, the parade’s official radio partner, WSB-TV, the parade's broadcast partner, and the Marietta Daily Journal and Neighbor Newspapers print publications.
Attendees are encouraged to use MARTA for event transportation. The Five Points and Peachtree Center stations are within walking distance of the parade route. For more information, visit www.choa.org/parade.
2010 Beneficiary Services

Invitation and Dinner Concert Info
Yesterday around this time of day we received an invitation to perform in the Children's Health Care of Atlanta Christmas Parade that is held in Downtown Atlanta on December 4, 2010. I am excited about this opportunity for our students. More information will be presented at our booster meeting Monday evening at 7:00pm in the band room.
Because this directly conflicts with the Paulding Christmas Parade, I called our local parade committee and asked their blessing before confirming our appearance in Atlanta.
As is tradition for our band when we perform in the Dallas parade we will all wear Santa Hats in addition to our uniform. The Santa hat should be the traditional hat. Colorguard wears a knit cap (toboggan. I will have a demo cap and instructions on where to find it at the booster meeting.
I hope to see you at the booster meeting Monday!
Also - we have our Annual Chili Cook Off quickly approaching. Ms. Haley and Ms. Dickerson are heading this task for us. We ask that the following group of students provide these items to help keep the cost low of the event. Concert Band Winds - Paper Bowls, Symphonic Band Winds - 2 2-litre drinks of your choice, Wind Ensemble Winds - Cups, Guard and Percussion - Desserts.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Our students are fortunate because we have parents who are willing to go the extra mile to make this experience for them top notch. Thank you.

GSU BAND DAY
The GSU band day was a hit! Thank you to everyone that made today successful. The day was superbly organized. Thank you to all of you who had a part of making today special for the kids. I have asked many kids and they all have the same response - each enjoyed their time on this trip. It was a cool experience to perform in the dome and the GSU Band was a great host. I would appreciate any feedback you had from the trip (positive or constructive) that I can pass to GSU on your behalf. Thanks again for making today a success!
High 5 Sports
We participated in our high 5 game of the week peprally that was hosted by Fox 5. The band sounded great despite the 7:00am report time and not having a chance to warm up. I derive this conclusion not from my own bias but from numerous comments made by our community. A few teachers who were able to speak with the Fox 5 crew after the peprally mentioned that the crew raved about our band. It was a fun experience for all of us; I think the kids would do it again even at the cost of a few minutes of sleep.
The Pope game last night was intense. Our champions on the field battled fiercely but the decision did not fall in our favor. Behind by 14 points our Spartans ran back the kickoff for a standing ovation touchdown! We are proud of our school for maintaining composure during our rollercoaster of ups and downs. It was a good run, the best football season yet.
