8th Grade Night is coming up. It is this Monday (March 28, 2011) evening. Students are to be ready to play through some stands tunes at 6:00PM in the Band Room. Our performance is at 6:30 and will not be very long. We will march into the gym to the drum cadence, perform a few stands tunes for the crowd, then march out. My best guess is that students will be finished by 7:00PM.
We would like to set up a booth showing the band trailer, answering questions about next year, selling Spirit items, and selling raffle tickets.

Way to go students!
Wow! Our students performed beautifully at GMEA's LGPE (Festival)! Mr. Roberts and I are extremely proud of the professional manner in which they performed. Thank you for your extra hours during this festival season and making the commitment to excellence. The judges complimented our students' attention to detail and appreciated their hard work. Congratulations to all three performing ensembles for receiving superior ratings!
Today, the students were excited to read through some new music in preparation of our next concert - The dinner concert on April 19 at 6:00PM.

Kicks 101.5
I would like to thank Darius Rucker and the morning show at Kicks 101.5 for their generous donation to the Spirit of South Paulding High School Band. They donated a guitar for us to raffle off in an effort to help us raise money. The drawing will be held at the Battle of the Bands, which is scheduled for April 1. Raffle tickets for the guitar are $2.00. Our goal is to raise at least $4000.00 by raffling the guitar. Our booster club president, Mr. William Thomas, has agreed to shave his head into a "mohawk," allow the kids to dye it a color of their choice, and wear it to a booster meeting if we reach this goal. If you do not know who Darius Rucker is, think of Hootie and the Blowfish. He is a fabulous musician. We are very fortunate to be the recipient of his generosity. Tickets are on sale now. See me to purchase tickets or to check out tickets to sell. Mr. Rucker and Kicks 101.5 - YOU ROCK! Thank you!
Other items will also be raffled off at the Battle of the Bands. I learned this evening that a band parent has donated 4 tickets to an Atlanta Hawks game! If you have a connection or are willing to donate an item to be raffled, please let us know. The raffle has the potential to help our attendance to the Battle of the Bands, which in turn helps us raise money for the band and the Gates Nichols Memorial Scholarship. I appreciate all of your support and am excited about the potential this event has in impacting the future of our students. Thank you for doing what you can.
All-State Band
We have the honor of sending 4 students to represent South Paulding High School and the Spirit of South Paulding to Savannah, GA this weekend to participate in the GMEA All-State Band. If you have the chance, please congratulate Andrew Engshun, Blake Soverns, Allison Webb, and Katie Webb for this honor! As worthy of praise is Jonas Lutz! He is currently the first alternate to the 9-10 Grade French Horn Section. It is an honor to send students to participate in this prestigious event. Congratulations guys! Have safe travels to Savannah! This will be a weekend to remember forever!
