I hope that everyone has had a chance to spend time with family and make wonderful memories that will be cherished forever. As we start next week I wanted to be sure that everyone has checked the calendar and is ready to start running!
In the month of January our Symphonic and Concert Bands will begin preparations for our Large Group Performance Evaluations and our Wind Ensemble will finish preparations to become the first band to perform at our Georgia Music Educator's Association's In-Service Conference in Savannah, GA which is followed by a performance at Troy University's Honor Band Clinic! Wind Ensemble has required rehearsals on Tuesday'a and Thursday's throughout the month of January. Attendance is required and will be enforced to ensure that we are prepared for our trip to Savannah and Troy.
Symphonic Band and Concert Band students will begin required rehearsals in preparation for LGPE starting the first week of February. These rehearsals are on the calendar. Attendance is required and will be enforced. Please check the calendar often as dates are added as I know about them.
Wind Ensemble Parents - I am sorry that more information about the trip has not come out sooner. We have been fortunate to have an anonymous donation take care of the cost of our students and chaperones to attend the trip. I have asked our Chaperone Chair, Ms. Jule Dickerson, to arrange for chaperones. If you would like to attend the trip it is still possible to attend, but I need to know by this Thursday if you would like for me to secure the hotel room for you. We have made arrangements through Brightspark Travel for all of the details.
At this point there is not an option for travel on the bus, but if you would like to travel separately we can book your room and include you in the meals if you would like. Here is the breakdown of the cost of each destination.
Option 1) 1 Night in Savannah + Dinner at Lady and Son's Restaurant = $155.00
Option 2) 1 Night in Troy = $100.00
Option 3) 1 Night in Savannah + the dinner, 1 Night in Troy + the meal en-route to Troy = $270.00
Option 4) You are welcome to make arrangements on your own to attend either or both events
If you are planning on either of the first three options, please let me know ASAP by sending me an e-mail. I need to let Brightspark know by this Friday to give them as much time as possible to make arrangements for you.
I understand that it is a lot of traveling for your family so in an effort to provide the opportunity for you to enjoy the students' hard work and give us a chance to perform it before an audience before we leave we are hosting a Send-Off Concert on January 28, 2014 at 7:00PM in the theater. There will be a reception to follow the concert to celebrate the students' accomplishments. I hope to see all of you in the audience as well as many parents of students and students who are in our Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Colorguard. This is a very important event for our family and I appreciate your support.
